'You Can't Call Your Mommy. She Can't Help You.' - We Got A Vintage Mick Cronin Rant About His Players After UCLA Looked Like Shit Again
Every so often we are given a beautiful gift after suffering through a UCLA game. That gift is a pissed off Mick Cronin. This is him turning back the clocks and (Michael Cole voice) VINTAGE Mick Cronin. Blaming his players, saying it's not his fault. Telling them they can't call their mommy. Just a great line. Pretty sure I haven't heard that line coming from a serious standpoint since like Kindergarten Cop.
I don't blame Mick for doing shit like this, UCLA sucks and I'm being polite here. Sure, some of it is on Mick. He recruited the team. He didn't hit the portal right. He's still the coach. But at some point players can't have this going on:
I still can't believe Mick is at UCLA. Not because he's an awful coach, he's been successful. But his style from his dressing to attitude to screaming is the opposite of everything UCLA. He really does just belong on Indiana. He's slowly morphing into a (smaller) Bobby Knight. I'm fine just letting him coach at IU, you know their fans would eat it up.
Even the whole 'you can quit and go transfer' line. Respectfully, shut the fuck up Mick. Every single coach who complains about this is just showing their ass. Remember, UCLA made a Final Four because of ... you guessed it ... a transfer. At some point we need to stop labeling every single transfer as some sort of quitter. I do love the idea of him just blaming the players for turnovers and sloppy play. He ain't wrong, but he ain't gonna take the blame. No sir, that's my players!
Gonna be a long year out at UCLA.
